Purpose: The article aims to analyze the differentiation in poverty and social exclusion in the European Union countries between 2010 and 2018. The empirical research was based on a database of sustainable development indicators, from which indicators describing poverty and social exclusion were selected. Design/Methodology/Approach: The research used one of the taxonomic methodsthe TOPSIS method, based on which countries were divided into four classes characterized by a similar level of poverty and social exclusion. Findings: The research results show that the highest level of poverty and social exclusion (at least 20th place in the rankings) was recorded mainly in the EU countries after 2004, except for Greece and Portugal. On the other hand, Finland had the lowest level of poverty and social exclusion in 2010 (in 2018, it was ranked second), and in 2018 the Chech Republic, which, compared to 2010, moved up by four positions in the ranking. Practical Implications: The presented research results are essential for developing a policy of eradicating poverty and social exclusion. Well-functioning social protection systems can have a stabilizing effect on the economy and promote socio-economic equality. Originality/Value: The article contributes to the most current European and world scientific discussions on the need to eliminate poverty and social exclusion, which are some of the world's most severe social problems.

This presented study discusses problems related to the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goal 1: No Poverty, aimed at eliminating poverty, based on the example of the Visegrad Group (V4) countries. The introduction addresses the general characteristics of the V4 and attempts to define the concept of sustainable development, with particular emphasis on its complex nature and importance for future generations. The purpose of the research was to assess the diversity within the Visegrad Group countries in the years 2005–2018 in terms of poverty and sustainable development level in the No Poverty area and also to identify the impact of the socioeconomic development level in the studied countries on sustainable development in the No Poverty area. Taking into account the analysis of poverty indicators in the Visegrad Group countries, the best results were recorded for Czechia. The second part of the conducted analyzed allowed us to conclude that Czechia definitely presents the highest level of sustainable development, followed by Slovakia. The highest average dynamics of changes occur in Poland and Hungary, which result in the gradual elimination of the existing disproportions. Among other research results, it is worth highlighting that the V4 countries show significant, however, decreasing differences regarding the indicators describing poverty in relation to sustainable development.

This article examines the unemployment policy of Central-East-European countries applying mixed methods. First, fuzzy set analysis is used to determine the efficiency of unemployment measures for reducing the poverty gap. Three causal conditions are measured: the net replacement rate of unemployment benefits, labour law regulations related to job security, and public spending on labour-market programs. This analysis reveals two possible pathways: governments may either provide a high level of job security, or spend on active and passive labour-market measures. Second, the fuzzy set analysis was completed with a comparative legal analysis covering the Visegrad countries that examined the policy choices the Visegrad countries made after the economic crisis. The paper argues that due to the different approaches to the welfare state, any potential EU initiatives for regulating unemployment benefits under the European Pillar of Social Rights might put divergent adaptation pressure on the V4 states. The differences are significant, as they would not only challenge effective social integration but also hamper the envisioned political cooperation of the V4 countries in this policy area. Building on previous literature, this paper is written to contribute to research on the European Social Model and social integration within the European Union.
