Potential of Pinus elliottii Engelm. needles as substrate conditioner for the production of “Fepagro C37 reck”Citrus rootstocks”

Abstract: The production of citrus seedlings in protected environment requires a large amount of substrate, which must have adequate physical and chemical characteristics. The use of acidic conditioners, such as Pinus needles mixed with alkaline substrates, allows the cultivation of seedlings with better quality. The objective of this work was to evaluate the development of the “Fepagro C37 Reck” rootstock grown in different alkaline commercial substrate mixtures (Humosolo ES®) with Pinus elliottii needles. The experime… Show more

“…In addition to this, micronutrients such as Fe, Mn, Zn and Cu may also be unavailable (Kämpf, 2005). In a study performed by Chrysargyris et al (2019), while evaluating GM with mixtures of peat, perlite and paper waste, the authors observed that as pH increased (from 4.5 to 5.6), the availability of Ca, Fe, Zn and Cu also increased. raised.…”

“…needle for use as a substrate conditioner for the production of citrus seedlings. Ceccagno et al (2019) developed studies analyzing the mixture of this material with a commercial substrate and observed that it shows variation in EC values according to the granulometry used (3.5 and 8.0 mm for medium or coarse respectively), but always with low salt content, being less than 0.60 mS cm -1 (1:5, v/v method), when raw.…”

“…Semelhantemente, o substrato casca de pinus, que é um subproduto do processamento de madeira de Pinus spp., é uma alternativa viável e disponível, sendo bastante utilizado para a produção de mudas, destacadamente de mudas de espécies florestais (MAEDA et al, 2007). Segundo Ceccagno et al, (2019), a casca de pinus compostada é um substrato química e fisicamente estável e por ser relativamente barato, é cada vez mais utilizado.…”

“…Such composition will directly influence the seedling production process, thus, the chemical and physical properties need to be as favorable as possible for the growth and development of the species under cultivation (OLIVEIRA et al, 2014;TRAZZI et al, 2014;VIEIRA e WEBER, 2016). The growth of seedlings and the formation of the root system are directly related to the properties of the substrate, as well as their interaction with the container and water management (KÄMPF, 2005;CECCAGNO et al, 2019aCECCAGNO et al, e 2019b.…”
