The potential energies of an isolated silver adatom on NaCl crystal surface is calculated by using dispersion, electrostatic, and repulsive potentials. They have a minimum value (-0.62 eV) above each sodium ion site in the flat (001) surface and a pair of minimum values (-1.10 eV) in the vicinity of each sodium ion site on the lower terrace along a step in the stepped (1 0 11) surface. From the results, the surface diffusion of an adatom on the flat and stepped surfaces is discussed in comparison with experimental results.Mittels Dispersions-, elektrostatischen und repulsiven Potentialen werden die potentiellen Energien eines isolierten Silberatoms auf NaCI-Kristalloberflachen berechnet. Diese zeigen einen Minimumwert (-0,62 eV) uber jedem Natriumionengitterplatz in der flachen (OOl)-Fliiche und ein Paar von minimalen Werten (-1,lO eV) in der Niihe eines jeden Natriumionenplatzes auf der niedrigeren Terrasse in Richtung einer Stufe der stufenformigen (1 0 11)-Fliche. Anhand der Ergebnisse wird die Oberfliichendiffusion eines Adatoms auf der flachen und stufenformigen Oberflache im Vergleich zu experimentellen Ergebnissen diskutiert.
