Potency of pre–post treatment of coenzyme Q10 and melatonin supplement in ameliorating the impaired fatty acid profile in rodent model of autism

Abstract: BackgroundAbnormalities in fatty acid metabolism and membrane fatty acid composition play a part in a wide range of neurodevelopmental and psychiatric disorders. Altered fatty acid homeostasis as a result of insufficient dietary supplementation, genetic defects, the function of enzymes involved in their metabolism, or mitochondrial dysfunction contributes to the development of autism.ObjectiveThis study evaluates the association of altered brain lipid composition and neurotoxicity related to autism spectrum di… Show more

“…The finding of the current study is of great support to our previous work in which vitamin D, CoQ10, vitamin B12, carnitine, and bioflavonoids (as major components of bee pollen) demonstrate significant potency in ameliorating PPA-induced persistent autistic features in the rodent model [ 77 , 78 , 79 , 80 , 81 , 82 , 83 , 84 ].…”

“…Also, Elbaky et al (31) stated that CoQ10 and N-Acetylcysteine had an ameliorative role in myocardial oxidative stress and encourages their use in protection from cardiotoxicity. El-Ansary et al proved the role of melatonin and co enzyme Q10 in ameliorating the impaired fatty acid profile in rodent model of autism (32) . Conclusion: melatonin had a higher protective effect than co enzyme Q10 in elimination the injury effect of bleomycin in lung tissue.…”

“…The ubiquinone is an antioxidant that has a neuroprotective value [ 23 ]. It has a protective role on polyunsaturated fatty acids which constitute an important component of neurons and myelin sheath [ 24 ]. The learning disorder participants manifested less ubiquinone levels in relation to controls which could indicate oxidative stress.…”
