Small rural properties are common in the interior of the state of Minas Gerais, making the production of animals in a rustic system expressive, such as the raising of swine in an extensive or semi-extensive system. The objective was to evaluate the profile of producers and consumers of redneck swine in the Alto São Francisco Region - MG. The research was carried out in the municipality of Bambuí - MG, located in the center west of Minas Gerais. Participated in the questionnaire 16 rural producers in the region of Bambuí and 40 Bambuí residents approached at the open-air market who agreed to participate in the research. A questionnaire containing 21 questions was used, consisting of 17 open questions and 4 multiple-choice closed questions. Data analysis was carried out with the help of spreadsheets in Microsoft Office Excel® 2019. The lack of technical assistance and the dissemination of products through marketing are the main factors that negatively influence the growth of the activity. The analysis of the data obtained allows us to affirm that it is necessary to promote and structure the rustic pig farming, where 70% of the producers are unaware of the subject. 50% of the producers say they do not have technical assistance due to the price and difficulty of access to the properties, which would otherwise favor the best production and commercial rates in alternative systems. Consumers point out that pig’s meat is purchased through the local fair (50%), where the price and origin of the products are the most relevant factors at the time of purchase and 90% of consumers believe that pork can be a vector for disease transmission.

The objective of this study was to evaluate the performance, allometric measurements, organ weight and intestinal morphometry of F1 (Duroc × Hampshire) and Moura pigs. For this purpose, 12 animals aged approximately 70 days were used, distributed in a randomized block design. The animals were housed individually in stalls with a compact floor, equipped with dummy-type drinking fountains and masonry feeders. The animals were slaughtered at 180 days of age. Crossbred animals had higher feed consumption in phase growth II and throughout finishing, higher weight gain in all phases, better feed conversion in the first three phases and higher carcass yield (p < 0.05). There was an effect (p < 0.05) for the allometric measurements. F1 pigs had a lower relative spleen weight, higher intestinal villus height, a better villus height/crypt depth ratio and a larger absorptive area in the duodenum than Moura pigs. It can be concluded that the F1 pigs had better intestinal parameters and a greater area of contact with the food, which probably had a positive effect on the zootechnical indices. And allometric measurements such as chest circumference can be used to estimate the live weight of animals in the growing and finishing phases.

A finalidade com a presente pesquisa foi avaliar o comportamento dos suínos na fase de terminação considerando a introdução de um brinquedo na instalação como forma de enriquecimento ambiental. Foram utilizados 26 suínos da linhagem Agroceres, distribuídos em um delineamento inteiramente casualizado, em dois tratamentos, T1: Controle sem enriquecimento ambiental e T2: Ambiente enriquecido, utilizando pneus, com 13 repetições cada. Cada animal foi avaliado individualmente, sendo considerado, portanto uma repetição experimental. O comportamento dos suínos foi observado segundo a metodologia por amostragem focal instantânea, três vezes ao dia, por um período de uma hora em cada observação, durante dez dias consecutivos. Foi utilizado o programa estatístico SISVAR aplicando o teste F de probabilidade para comparação dos comportamentos entre os tratamentos. Os animais mantidos em tratamento enriquecido passaram cerca de 16% do tempo interagindo com pneu, e menos tempo interagindo com a lâmina d’agua (P<0,05) e em contrapartida, animais do grupo controle apresentaram maior frequência de comportamentos lúdicos, brincando uns com os outros. A utilização de pneus em baias de suínos na fase de terminação pode ser utilizada como forma de enriquecimento ambiental, propiciando um ambiente mais confortável e dinâmico para estes animais confinados.
