Sachet water is a form of packaged water commonly sold in West Africa [1]. It refers to water of approximately 500 ml volume that is purified, packaged and sold for drinking in heat-sealed plastic sleeves ('sachets'). Nationally representative surveys show that up to 18% of urban households in Nigeria depend on sachet water for drinking, cooking and other domestic uses with only a small fraction utilising bottled water products [2]. Public places within Nigeria are ever humming with tremendous activity and accordingly reflecting growth and development of the host cities. The ensuing channelization demands of these centres calls for apposite sanitation to enhancing efficient operation and utilization. This study was undertaken to assess the present status of onsite sanitation facilities in public places within Akure, to trace problems related to sanitation and solid waste management. Logical sampling methods were used to sample the users and passers-by of selected public places. Primary data were acquired from scrutinizing sanitation facilities, employing questionnaire, and interviewing the chief players- drivers and traders- in these centres. Qualitative and quantitative data obtained from both primary and secondary sources were employed for this study. Survey facts were analyzed using descriptive statistical method while Grading of Recommendations, Assessment, Development, and Evaluation (GRADE) was further utilized in results analysis. The outcomes showed existing sanitary facilities are insufficient to match the populace, and a poor maintenance of these facilitates credited to unavailability of dedicated management staff coupled with flawed maintenance and monitoring by local authorities. This is occasioned by lower than normal patronage. Further, the general experience of the respondent with regard to these facilities were rather unpleasant. Combating strategies to the established challenges in the selected centres are active governmental involvement in restructuring these places in conformity with standard requirements; community support programs, and a supervisory team routinely overseeing the reliability and development of sanitation facilities.

The water from the high Andean rivers is peculiar due to its composition and the geomorphology of its sources, and naturally or anthropogenically contamination is not discarded along its course. This water is used for agriculture and human consumption, therefore knowing its quality is important. This research aimed to proposing and formulate a water-quality index for high Andean basins through the Delphi method, and its application in the Chumbao River located in Andahuaylas-Peru. Forty-three water-quality parameters were evaluated through the Delphi method, and the water-quality index (WQIHA) was formulated with a weighted average of the weights of the selected parameters, it was compared with the WQI Dinius. For this purpose, ten sampling points were considered along the Chumbao River located between 4274 and 2572 m of altitude and the WQIHA was applied. In addition, field and laboratory analyses were carried out in 2018, 2019, and 2021, in dry and rainy seasons. Twenty parameters were grouped in the physicochemical sub-index (SIPC), heavy metals sub-index (SIHM), and organic matter sub-index (SIOM). Each group contributed with weights of 0.30, 0.30, and 0.40, respectively, for the WQIHA formulation. The SIPC and SIOM showed that the areas near the head of the basin presented excellent and good quality, while the urbanized areas were qualified as marginal to poor; SIHM reported good quality in all points and seasons. Regarding the WQIHA, the index shows good quality in the zones above 3184 m of altitude, contrasting with poor quality downstream, decreasing notably in both seasons, suggesting continuous degradation of the water body.
