Post placental copper-T 380A insertion after normal vaginal delivery and cesarean section and its clinical outcome

Abstract: Background: Post placental IUCD insertion refers to the insertion of IUD within 10 minutes of expulsion of placenta. Intra-cesarean section is insertion of IUD after removal of placenta before closure of uterine incision. The objective of this study was to study the efficacy, safety and effect on menstrual cycle, expulsion, continuation and failure rate of post-placental copper-T 380A after vaginal and cesarean birth over the period of 1 year in tertiary centre. Methods: A total 150 women who opted for inserti… Show more

“…In the present study among the 17.85%, 20% women expelled the IUCD after 3 weeks of delivery, 60% at 6 weeks, 13.33% at 3 months and 6.67% at 6 months interval. This was supported by study done by Mallik et al (9) (14.3% expulsion rate at 6 weeks which was reduced to 0% at 6 months). Expulsion rate in the present study was higher in the beginning of the study (80%) due to lack of training; but with continuous training for insertion of PPIUCD, the expulsion rate reduced down to only 20% by the end of the study.…”

“…Even though the frequency of missing IUCD threads was high, the expulsion rate was not as much. In contrast, the removal rate due to heavy bleeding, abdominal pain, and vaginal discharge was quite low, and the continuation rate was substantially good for 6 months 12 .…”

“…Intra-caesarean IUCD is inserted after removal of placenta. [3][4][5][6][7] A study reported, among the complications bleeding was reported by 23.50% of the cases and expulsion rate was 8.99%. 5 While another study reported the rate of expulsion of IUCD was 3.6% (they reported no mode of delivery).¹ Moreover one more study reported bleeding after PPIUCD was 15.7% in females delivering vaginally or by cesarean section.…”
