Possible Role of CD11a in Primary Immune Thrombocytopenia Patients on Immunosuppressive Therapy

Abstract: Background and Objectives Immune thrombocytopenia (ITP) is one of the autoimmune diseases that presented by thrombocytopenia and increased risk of bleeding. Etiology of immune thrombocytopenia (ITP) is very complex. Lymphocyte function associated antigen-1 (LFA-1) plays important role in ITP. The aim of this study was evaluation of expression of CD11a on lymphocytes to explore its possible role in primary ITP patients also, regarding severity and response to immunosuppressive treatment. … Show more

“…In this patient, the phallus was found to be massively swollen and slightly tender with two deep-seated solitary ulcerative lesions on the glans penis and another at shaft of the penis. Single solitary lesions were hitherto not common presentations of Mpox disease and can be misdiagnosed for Syphilis, Lymphogranuloma Venerium, or even Chancroid [17]. In this case, it was misdiagnosed and managed as a case of secondary syphilis.…”

“…For this case, apart from a two-week history of undisclosed sexual contact, there was no history of contact with a suspected or confirmed Mpox case suggesting that there was no epidemiological linkage. But studies suggest the possibility of asymptomatic or pauci-symptomatic transmission of the disease [17,21]. The patient was reluctant to provide the details of the casual sexual contact for contact tracing even though the State Public Health Law Cap 106 laws of Rivers State 1999, require the mandatory disclosure of all necessary health information to the health care provider that would be useful for the containment of infectious diseases.…”

“…CD11a is important for normal lymphocyte development [1]. HIV activates CD4+ T lymphocytes, dendritic cells, and macrophages, resulting in immune system dysfunction [2].…”

“…Also, ICAM-1 plays a role in the pathogenesis of immune thrombocytopenia (ITP). 18 Contrast-induced nephropathy (CIN) is an important complication of invasive cardiovascular procedures. Patients who undergo percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) are at greater risk of CIN and patients with diabetes mellitus or baseline renal impairment have a risk of almost 50%.…”
