Possibilities of Pervious Concrete Application in Road Construction

Abstract: The paper presents basic characteristics of pervious concrete and gives an overview of the most significant current researches in the world as well as the possibility of use of pervious concrete for road construction in Western Balkan's countries, like Serbia. The analysis of the recent researches is presented in the form of diagrams and correlations between physical and mechanical properties of pervious concrete. During the preparation of this type of concrete, it is observed that the aggregate has the most s… Show more

“…It is a zeroslump concrete, consists of single sized aggregates between 9.5mm to 12.5mm and bonded by cement and water at points of contact to create a high porosity system that drains water quickly. Its water to cement ratio is between 0.28 to 0.40 [3] with the voids space between 15-30% [4] where conventional concrete has 3-5% voids space, and it has between 1:4-1:4,5 [5] ratio of cement to aggregates. This voids space promotes water infiltration whilst recharging ground water with cleaner quality water.…”
