Portal Biliopathy: A Review of Imaging Features of Nine Patients

Abstract: Aim: To discuss the etiology, pathogenesis, diagnosis and management of PB, supported by a series of 9 cases from a personal series. Methods: Radiological images of 9 cases of PB were retrieved from different hospitals and studied and information relating to PB was obtained from various internet databases including PUB Med, Google, Google Scholar and Educus. Results: Portal biliopathy (PB) is a rare complication of extra-portal venous obstruction. Most patients remain asymptomatic, but some may present with ra… Show more

“…In portal hypertension imaging, ultrasound techniques such as duplex ultrasonography, spectral Doppler, color Doppler, and power Doppler imaging are chosen because of their non-invasiveness, rapidity, high sensitivity, and specificity. For patients with known cirrhosis, Doppler ultrasound has a specificity of greater than 80% (9). This study, therefore, aims to establish the average values of portal vein diameter, pulsatility index, and peak systolic velocity in a healthy Northern Nigerian population and study their variations with age, gender, and anthropometric variables.…”
