“…Recent publications have tended to focus on producing novel ceramic materials specifically to MD, rather than on commercial ceramic membranes. Some examples include kaolin [Al 2 Si 2 O 5 (OH) 4 ], silicon nitride with SiNCO nanoparticles (NPs), bi‐layered yttria‐stabilized zirconia (YSZ), β‐Sialon coated with polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS), alumina and clay (kaolin), alumina support and zeolite mordenite framework inverted (MFI), mud of hydrocyclone laundries of phosphates/zirconia, Tunisian clay, green silica‐based ceramic membrane derived from rice husk ash waste, and silicon dioxide‐coated silicon oxynitride . Each publication reported in detail the fabrication of the membrane.…”

“…In addition, selective properties of MD were not compromised. Hydrophobic layer of ceramic membranes was also stable in some solutions, such as boiling water, benzene, humic acid and hydrochloric acid, chlorine, chloroform, and hexane . On the other hand, after long‐time contact with water, some authors reported a decrease in the hydrophobicity level of the grafted ceramic membranes .…”

“…Tape‐casting is a well‐established technique, whereby flat ceramics with tailored thickness can be produced . It was used originally to fabricate dense ceramic substrates, but nowadays, it is generally applied to fabricate porous ceramic membranes via its combination with other pore forming methods, such as sacrificial template, partial sintering, phase inversion, and freeze drying . Still, sacrificial template method inevitably gives serious cause for concern about environmental pollution, partial sintering method intrinsically presents difficulties in developing high porosity, and phase inversion and freeze drying methods are generally complex processes for membrane fabrication.…”
