Herein, we report as imple and effective strategy for the synthesis of yellow ZnO (Y-ZnO) nanostructures with abundant oxygen vacancies on al arge scale, through the sulfidation of ZnO followed by calcination. The developed strategy allows retention of the overall morphology of Y-ZnO compared with pristine ZnO and the extento fo xygen vacancies can be tuned. The influence of oxygen deficiencies, the extent of defects ites, and the morphology of ZnO on its solution-phase thermocatalytic activity has been eval-uated in the synthesis of 5-substituted-1H-tetrazoles with different nitriles and sodium azide. Ar easonable enhancement in the reaction rate was achieved by using Y-ZnO nanoflakes (Y-ZnONFs) as ac atalyst in place of pristine ZnO NFs. The reactionw as complete within 6h at 110 8C with Y-ZnONFs, whereas it took 14 ha t1 20 8Cw ithp ristine ZnO NFs. The catalyst is easy to recycle withoutasignificant loss in catalytic activity.[a] S.

Biosensing has developed tremendously since it was demonstrated by Leland C. Clark Jr. in 1962. ZnO nanomaterials are attractive candidates for fabricating biosensors, because of their diverse range of nanostructures, high electron mobility, chemical stability, electrochemical activity, high isoelectric points which promote enzyme adsorption, biocompatibility, and piezoelectric properties. This review covers ZnO nanostructures applied in enzyme biosensors, in the light of electrochemical transduction and field effect transduction. Different assembly processes and immobilization methods have been used to load enzymes into various ZnO nanostructures, providing enzymes with favorable micro-environments and enhancing their sensing performance. We briefly describe recent trends in ZnO syntheses, and the analytical performance of the fabricated biosensors, summarize the advantages of using ZnO nanostructures in biosensors, and conclude with future challenges and prospects.

Development of Easily Separable ZnO‐Supported Au Nanocatalyst for the Oxidative Esterification of Alcohols and Reduction of Nitroarenes

A simple and practical protocol is described for the reduction of aromatic nitro compounds and the oxidative esterification of alcohols by using a recyclable 3D assembled porous rectangular ZnO nanoplates supported gold nanocatalysts (Au/ZnO) under mild conditions. The support 3D assembled ZnO plate was synthesized simple strategy without employing any toxic reductants or capping agents and Au was loaded through simple impregnation method. The synthesized catalyst was characterized by powder X‐ray diffraction (XRD), X‐ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), electron microscopic study (TEM & SEM), diffuse reflectance spectrum (DRS). The developed catalyst showed excellent catalytic activity for both the reaction and ended with good to excellent yield, up to 97% yield for nitro reduction and 90% yield for oxidative esterification. The catalyst is recyclable for a minimum five times without any significant loss in catalytic activity. The catalytic activities are superior or sometime comparable to that of the reported catalyst. The use of a developed catalyst is beneficial for of low cost and availability of good support ZnO and advantageous with respect to that of separation, easily separable by simple filtration due to the bigger size of support ZnO.
