Population and feeding structure of Steindachnerina notonota Miranda-Ribeiro, 1937 (Actinopterygii, Characiformes, Curimatidae) in Taperoá II dam, semi-arid region of Paraíba, Brazil

Abstract: AIM: The present study investigated population structure, weight-length relationships, sex ratio and associations between feeding activity and reproductive period, diet and alimentary regime of Steindachnerina notonota at Taperoá II dam, semi-arid region of Paraíba State. METHODS: The region has the lowest pluviometric rates of Brazil. Fishes were collected during six sampling periods (October and December/2005, and March, June, August and October of 2006) encompassing two dry periods, and one rainy period. Ca… Show more

“…The kind of allometry verified for the species through the weight-length relationship contributes to the knowledge on its morphology, providing parameters for comparison with other populations (Montenegro et al, 2011). The type of allometry verified indicates a greater increase in length than in weight, providing evidence of growth strategy, which may be related to the stages of maturity.…”

“…Além de indicar "stanzas" de crescimento relacionadas à maturação sexual e metamorfose, informando ainda parâmetros da equação de produção (Beverton & Holt, 1957). Nesse sentido, investigações relacionadas à relação peso-comprimento contribuem para o conhecimento da morfologia das espécies e fornece uma base para comparações com outras populações (Montenegro, Torelli, Crispim & Medeiros, 2011).…”
