Polyoxometalate-Based Metal Organic Frameworks (POMOFs): Structural Trends, Energetics, and High Electrocatalytic Efficiency for Hydrogen Evolution Reaction

Abstract: The grafting of the triangular 1,3,5-benzene tricarboxylate linkers (denoted trim) on tetrahedral ε-Keggin polyoxometalates (POMs) capped by Zn(II) ions, formed in situ under hydrothermal conditions, has generated three novel POM-based metal organic frameworks (POMOFs). (TBA)(3)[PMo(V)(8)Mo(VI)(4)O(36)(OH)(4)Zn(4)][C(6)H(3)(COO)(3)](4/3)·6H(2)O (ε(trim)(4/3)) is a 3D open-framework built of molecular Keggin units connected by trim linkers, with channels occupied by tetrabutylammonium (TBA) counterions. ε(trim)… Show more

“…However, few inorganic agents have been reported that can inhibit Ab amyloid formation [6][7][8][9][10][11] . Polyoxometalates (POMs) are early transition metal oxide clusters (especially Mo, W and V) with high oxidation states, and they are used for constructing molecular architectures with potential applications 16 , for example, in catalysis 17 , magnetic materials 18 , chiral recognition 19 or nanocomposites 20 . Furthermore, POMs are promising candidates for drug-carrier approaches on the way to new composite drugs because they have long been known for their multifaceted bioactivity that encompasses antiviral, anticancer, antibacterial and herbicidal properties 21 .…”

“…In comparison with the first report for electrochemical HER with polyoxometalate-based metal organic frameworks (POMOFs) [29], although the onset potential is relatively higher, but it seems that the j value for the proposed electrode is greater. Also compared to two recently published reports for electrochemical HER on MOF-5 modified CPE [31] and Ni-based MOF modified GCE [30], the proposed modified CPE electrode has better current densities or onset potential for HER.…”

“…Among the wide range of available catalysts, MOFs have recently received noticeable attention owing to their characteristics such as porosity, specific surface area and adjustable pore size [20,21]. Related to hydrogen energy, MOFs have been mostly used for hydrogen storage [22][23][24][25] and there are some reports in hydrogen generation area with photocatalytic method [26][27][28], and a few reports for electrochemical hydrogen generation [29][30][31].…”
