Abstract: Es wird über Polymerisationsversuche mit p‐Isopropylstyrol, p‐(β‐Bromäthyl)‐styrol und p‐Äthinylstyrol berichtet. p‐Isopropylstyrol und p‐(β‐Bromäthyl)‐styrol sind leicht polymerisierbar; p‐Äthinylstyrol zeigt eine ausgeprägte Tendenz zur Bildung vernetzter Polymerer oder Copolymerer. Poly-p-(w-lithiumalky1)-styrole mit n = 1-4 wurden synthetisiert durch Umsetzung der entsprechenden Halogenverbindungen mit n-Butyllithium. Diese metallorganischen Polymeren lessen sich ak polymere Metallierungsmittel gegenuber Alkyl-und Arylhalogeniden sowie CH-aciden Verbindungen in Austauschreaktionen verwenden und sind dmin in ihrer Aktivitiit dem n-Butyllithium vergleichbar. Im Falle der Austauschreaktion mit Halogenverbindungen sind die Reagentien regenerierbar und lassen sich &her oftmals verwenden; allerdings nimmt dabei die Zahl der aktiven Stellen infolge gelegentlich auftretender WuRTz-FITTIC-Reektionen mit dem Substrat stiindig ab. SUMMARY:Poly[p-(w-lithium alkyl)styrene] with n = 1 to 4 were synthesized by reaction of the corresponding halogen compounds with n-butyl lithium. These organometallic polymers are useful metallating agents in interconversion reactions with halogen compounds as well as CH acidic substances, and their ectivity may be compared to that of n-butyl lithium. I n halogen metal interconversion reactions the polymeric reagents may be used in many runs because their reactivation is easy to accomplish. However, some decrease of the number of active sites along the chain h a been observed on account of WURTZ-FITTIG reactions between the polymer and the substrate. 147 M. L. HALLENSLEBEN Einleitung

ynopsis p-(2-Pyridylthiomethyl)styrene (PTMS) and p-(2-pyridylthioethyl)styrene (PTES) were prepared from the reactions of 2-pyridinethiol with p-chloromethylstyrene and with p-bromoethylstyrene, respectively. These monomers are readily polymerized in the presence of AIBN.From the copolymerization of PTMS with styrene, QmMs = 1.19 and ems = 0.24 were obtained. The resulting polymers can extract alkali metal ions such as sodium and potassium cations. The extraction ability increases with increasing the density of active sites in polymers. Further these polymers serve as phase transfer catalysts for the reduction of carbonyl compounds by sodium borohydride.

ZUSAMMENFASSUNG:Es wird iiber die Herstellung von Polystyrolen mit freien, p-standigen Vinylgruppen durch Abspaltung von HBr aus Styrollp-(P-Bromathy1)-styrol-Copolymeren berichtet. Durch Copolymerisation solcher Polymerisate mit Styrol lassen sich losliche Pfropfcopolymere oder auch vernetzte Formkorper erhalten; von letzteren werden einige mechanische Eigenschaften mitgeteilt.In Styrol /p-(a-Hydroxy-isoprop y1)-styrol-Copolymere (Copolymerisationsparameter bei 50°C: rl (Styrol) = 0,50 f 0,05; r2 = 0,56 j , 0,05) lassen sich durch WasserabspaltungIsopropenylgruppen einfiihren. SUMMARY:The pwparatimof polystyrene with free vinyl groups in p-position is described by splitting off of HBr from styrenelp-(P-bromoethy1)-styrene-copolymers. By copolymerisation of such polymers with styrene soluble graft copolymers or crosslinked products can be obtained. Some mechanical properties of the latter are reported.I n styrene/p-(a-hydroxy-isopropyl)styrene-copolymers (reetivity ratios at 50 "C. : rl (styrene) = 0.50 j , 0.05; r2 = 0.56rt 0.05) isopropenyl groups can be introduced by dehydratisation.
