Polymeric DABCO‐Bromine Complex: A Mild Oxidant for the Preparation of Ketones and Aldehydes.

Abstract: Oxidation O 0212 Polymeric DABCO-Bromine Complex: A Mild Oxidant for the Preparation of Ketones and Aldehydes. -Addition of bromine to DABCO in CCl4 generates a stable polymeric oxidant which permits the conversion of primary and secondary alcohols to carbonyl compounds (II) (13 examples). -(STRUSS*, J. “…The polymeric DABCO−bromine complex was used to convert primary and secondary alcohols to the corresponding aldehydes and ketones. 1636 The reaction was carried out in a biphasic system consisting of dichloromethane and water at room temperature. A variety of 1,2-diols were selectively oxidized to their corresponding 1,2-diketones with bromamine-T using RuCl 3 •xH 2 O as the catalyst in an alkaline mixture of acetonitrile and water in a 1:1 ratio.…”
