PolyGuanine methacrylate cryogels for ribonucleic acid purification

Abstract: The isolation and purification of ribonucleic acid have attracted attention recently for the understanding of the functions in detail because of the necessity for the treatment of genetic diseases. In this study, guanine-incorporated polymeric cryogels were developed to obtain highly purified ribonucleic acid. The satisfactory purification performance was achieved with the guanine-incorporated poly (2-hydroxyethyl methacrylate-guanine methacrylate) cryogels. The most crucial advantages to use guanine as a func… Show more

“…In the case of elemental analysis results, the poly(HEMA-GMA)@Nic-Ca(II) cryogels have the N% value corresponding the ligand amount of 32.9 mg/g cryogel (nicotinamide 1.175 mmol/g cryogel). The surface area of cryogels was estimated as 8.736 m 2 /g which quite comparable with the literature (24,25). The Ca(II) amount immobilized on the cryogels was found as 455 mmoles/g.…”

“…Because of cryogelic polymerization, there were big cavities formed as a result of water removal at the end of the polymerization. The cavities with rough surface (approximately 3.343 m2/g, via Quantachrome AutosorbVR iQ-Chemi, Florida, USA, which was comparable with the literature [26][27][28]) suitable for the adsorption of lead ions could be seen it SEM (Carl Zeiss AG-EVO® 50 Series, Germany) images given in Figure 2. The water uptake amount of cryogels was found (376% on average) using the difference between the weights of dry and water retained cryogel according to the formula given by Equation 1.…”

“…Moreover, RNA adsorbed onto this new cryogel could be efficiently recovered without denaturation, enabling fast, cost-effective, and single-step RNA purification. While the removal of impurities from crude samples was not explicitly demonstrated, the novel cryogel showed promising results in selective and efficient RNA purification [ 125 ].…”
