A national survey was conducted to determine polychlorinated dibenzo-p-dioxins and dibenofurans (PCDD/Fs) and dioxin-like polychlorinated biphenyls (dl-PCBs) in human milk samples collected from 16 provinces in China to assess current exposure and temporal trends in China. The arithmetic mean concentration of total TEQ (PCDD/Fs and dl-PCBs) in 2011 is 6.7pgTEQg lipid with a range of 2.9-15.4pgTEQg lipid in 2011. Levels have been compared to data obtained during a previous national study conducted in 2007. The mean of PCDD/Fs has increased about 32.6% and 99.9% for total TEQ concentration (3.7pgTEQg lipid in 2007 vs 4.9pgTEQg lipid in 2011) and mass concentration (66.7pgg lipid in 2007 vs 133.3pgg lipid in 2011) during the period of 2007-2011, respectively. Continuous surveillance on PCDD/Fs and dl-PCBs in human milk is critical to evaluate the human health effect and environment impact in China.

The high cost of dl-PCBs analysis using a high-resolution gas chromatography/mass spectrometry (HR-GC/MS) generally minimizes it is regular analysis studies, especially in human tissue. In this study, a survey was carried out for analysis of dl-PCBs in thirty human milk samples collected from Qalyubia governorate, Egypt (2016)(2017)(2018). Significant correlations were observed between Ʃdl-PCBs (TEQ), age, and numbers of deliveries. All dl-PCBs congeners were detected in all collected samples. Besides, the non-ortho PCB congener (PCB 126) was found at elevated concentrations. The mean TEQ concentrations of non-ortho and mono-ortho PCBs in the breast milk of the primiparous mothers were 7.30 and 0.20 pgTEQg -1 lipid, respectively. On the other hand, multiparous mothers have a mean TEQ concentration for these dl-PCBs (non-ortho and mono-ortho PCBs) of 6.1 and 0.3 pg TEQ g -1 lipid, respectively. The most found dl-PCBs were PCB-118 and PCB-156, both account 64.9% from ƩPCBs concentrations without TEF. Estimation of infant daily intakes (EIDI) showed that they are at high risk of adverse effects caused by PCBs.

The developmental origins of health and disease concept illustrates that exposure in early life to various factors may affect the offspring's long-term susceptibility to disease. during development, the nervous system is sensitive and vulnerable to the environmental insults. Polychlorinated biphenyls (PcBs), which are divided into dioxin-like (dL-PcBs) and non-dioxin-like PcBs (NdL-PcBs), are synthetic persistent environmental endocrine-disrupting chemicals. The toxicological mechanisms of dL-PcBs have been associated with the activation of the aryl hydrocarbon receptor and NdL-PcBs have been associated with ryanodine receptor-mediated calcium ion channels, which affect neuronal migration, promote dendritic growth and alter neuronal connectivity. In addition, PcB accumulation in the placenta destroys the fetal placental unit and affects endocrine function, particularly thyroid hormones and the dopaminergic system, leading to neuroendocrine disorders. However, epidemiological investigations have not achieved a consistent result in different study cohorts. The present review summarizes the epidemiological differences and possible mechanisms of the effects of intrauterine PcB exposure on neurological development.
