“…However, Eguchi et al (2015) found that the PCB concentration was positively associated with FT3 and FT4 in females of e-waste recycling sites in North Vietnam. Additionally, other studies found no associations between PCBs and FT3 or FT4 in residents of e-waste areas, including our previous study (Lv et al, 2015;P. Xu et al, 2014).…”

“…Second, the subjects were recruited from different geographic areas. Although the subjects were all from e-waste dismantling sites, the major types and contaminants of e-waste varied between sites (Eguchi et al, 2015;Lv et al, 2015;P. Xu et al, 2014;X.…”

“…Despite the fact that blood biomarkers of lipophilic pollutants are acknowledged to be good predictors of levels in adipose tissue, many factors may affect the partition between lipids from both compartments. For instance, the average partition adipose tissue:serum of PBDEs in lipid basis was estimated around 0.5 for the congeners BDE-28, − 47 and − 99 and between 0.8 and 1.1 for BDE-153, − 154 and − 183 in Chinese women [35]. This imperfect partition may hamper the interpretation of risk models when using circulating biomarkers as proxies of adipose tissue estimates, resulting, in some cases, in associations in opposite directions [36].…”

“…In fact, they are still present worldwide, due to long environmental persistence, and are suspected to play a role in the occurrence of metabolic, endocrine and cardiovascular diseases and to have an impact on fetal and newborn development, also for relatively low concentration (Solecki et al., 2017; Kabir et al., 2015; Haddow et al., 1999). Furthermore, emissions of unintentionally produced PCBs by some factories, from e-waste contaminated sites so in e-waste dismantling workers increased in various countries, particularly in China, in the 2000s (Cui et al., 2015), determining relatively high PCB serum levels in e-waste workers and in the general population living inside e-waste recycling areas compared to people living outside polluted areas (Ma et al., 2018; Lv et al., 2015). It is noteworthy that predominant PCB congeners found in e-waste workers and in people living in e-waste recycling areas were low-chlorinated PCBs, especially tri- and tetrachloro-PCBs, probably due to exposure by inhalation of contaminated air or dermal contact, contrary to the finding that ingestion of contaminate food is the most relevant source of PCB exposure in Western countries.…”
