Poly(ethylene glycol)‐crosslinked fullerenes for high efficient phototherapy

Abstract: Poly(ethylene glycol)‐crosslinked multimeric C60 was developed for use in photothermal/photodynamic therapy of malignant cells. We showed that: (i) the tumor surface temperature on KB tumor‐bearing nude mice treated with multimeric C60 reached about 44 °C; (ii) this hyperthermic condition and tremendous singlet oxygen generation from multimeric C60 resulted in significant tumor volume regression in KB tumor‐bearing nude mice; and (iii) multimeric C60 also efficiently inhibited arthritic progress in the arthrit… Show more

“…prepared a carrier based on folic acid functionalized graphene with a pyrene‐γ‐CD ⋅ C 60 complex adsorbed at its surface through π–π interactions (GO‐FA‐CDx ⋅ C 60 ) . GO‐FA‐CDx ⋅ C 60 promoted folic acid receptor mediated cellular uptake and showed not only photoinduced cytotoxicity, but also photothermal activity toward HeLa cells …”

“…[78] GO-FA-CDx·C 60 promoted folic acid receptor mediated cellular uptake and showedn ot only photoinduced cytotoxicity,b ut also photothermal activity towardH eLa cells. [79,80] Calvaresi et al reportedt hat lysozyme was able to disperse even pristine C 60 monomolecularly in water with a1 :1 stoichi- ometry. [81,82] The lysozyme·C 60 complexp roduced 1 O 2 following visible-light irradiation and showedp hotoinduced cytotoxicity toward HeLa cells.…”

“…In this connection, multimeric conjugate of chlorin e 6 , folate and C 60 79 presents a special interest for application in the combined photothermal/photodynamic therapy of cancer. [78] The conjugate 79 synthesis is shown at the Scheme 19. Chlorin e 6 and folate were activated with DCC and N-hydroxysuccinimide (NHS) to form the respective succinates.…”
