Poly[{(BuSn)12O14(OH)6}(AMPS)2] and poly[methyl acrylate-co-{(BuSn)12O14(OH)6}(AMPS)2]: hybrid polymers cross-linked through electrostatic interactions

Abstract: A butyltin oxo-cluster, {(BuSn) 12 O 14 (OH) 6 } 2+ , functionalized through electrostatic interactions with two 2-acrylamido-2-methyl-1-propanesulfonate anions (AMPS), has been synthesized and characterized by single crystal X-ray diffraction and multinuclear ( 1 H, 13 C and 119 Sn) NMR. Its polymerization or co-polymerization with methyl acrylate yield hybrid materials where the nanobuilding blocks are fully preserved and act as nano-fillers and cross-linking agents.According to the electrostatic nature of t… Show more

“…A butyltin oxo-cluster macrocation, [(BuSn) 12 O 14 (OH) 6 ] 2+ , functionalized with two 2-acrylamido-2-methyl-1-propanesulfonate anions (AMPS), 22 has been chosen both as a cross-linking agent and a healing agent. The hybrid character of the NBB, and especially the presence of butyl moieties at the surface of the inorganic core enable its easy dissolution in n-butyl acrylate (BuA) without the need of an additional solvent.…”

“…The main example involves the assembly of tin-oxo hydoxo clusters using telechelic organic biscarboxylic acid derivatives. 16,17 To draw new prospects in this field, we have developped original synthetic routes towards hydrolysable organotins for sol-gel chemistry and chemical modification of oxide surfaces since tin is one of the rare metals that form stable metal-carbon bonds under hydrolytic conditions. In this context, functional trialkynylorganotins 18,19 and organically bridged α,ω-bis(trialkynyltin) compounds 20,21 have been synthesized, which afforded surface modified oxides 19,22 and self-assembled tin-based hybrid materials 23 -25 after reaction with oxide powders or films and controlled hydrolysis, respectively.…”

“…119 Sn (I=1/2) can exhibit very large CSA effects especially at ultra‐high magnetic field and acts as well as a local probe of interest in inorganic chemistry ,. As an example of important tin compounds, tin oxo‐clusters of general formula {(RSn) 12 O 14 (OH) 6 } 2+ (noted (RSn) 12 thereafter) and {RSnO(O 2 CR’)} 6 (noted (RSn) 6 thereafter) (see Figures 4 and 7 for a representation of the oxo‐cores; R, R’ stand here for organic chains) can be considered as versatile nanobuilding blocks for the synthesis of tunable hybrid O/I materials which can be used as matrices for photochromic dyes, exhibit self‐healing properties or improved resistance to oxidation. [33] To the best of our knowledge, very few 1 H → 119 Sn experiments based on the heteronuclear dipolar interaction have been published so far.…”
