Poly(2‐) and (3‐aminobenzoic acids) and their copolymers with aniline: Synthesis, characterization, and properties

Abstract: Poly(2-aminobenzoic acid) and poly(3-aminobenzoic acid) were synthesized by chemical polymerization of the respective monomers with aqueous 1M hydrochloric acid and 0.49M sodium hydroxide, using ammonium persulfate as an oxidizing agent. In addition, polymerization in an acid medium was carried out in the presence of metal ions, such as Cu(II), Ni(II), and Co(II). Poly(2-aminobenzoic acid-co-aniline) and poly(3-aminobenzoic acid-co-aniline) were synthesized by chemical copolymerization of aniline with 2-and 3-… Show more

“…The extent of conjugation of -orbitals is believed to be responsible for conductivity in polymers, it affects the position of this band. The hypsochromic shift of this band for PMT in comparison with parent PANI suggests that the steric effect of the methyl group in the polymer chain causes perturbation of the coplanarity of the -system, hence lowering the degree of conjugation [27,77,78]. The band at λ = 420 nm arises from the radical cations (polaron) produced in the PMT matrix showing a maximum absorption value at E SCE = 0.4 V followed by a steady decrease with an increase in the applied potential in anodic direction.…”

“…Poly(aniline‐ co ‐3‐aminobenzoic acid) (3ABAPANI) as the emeraldine base (EB) form was synthesized from a comonomer mixture with equimolar proportions of aniline and 3ABA, using potassium iodate (KIO 3 ) as oxidizing agent and hydrochloric acid. The synthesis gave a 50–60% yield of polymers with enhanced solubility 11, 15, 16. The ES form was prepared by adding 0.1 g of synthesized 3ABAPANI (EB) to HCl solution (100 mL, 1 mol · L −1 ), and allowing the mixture to stand for 24 h. The sample was then filtered, washed repeatedly with distilled water, and vacuum dried at 40 °C overnight.…”

“…RGO/Fe 3 O 4 @SPAN (SPAN immobilized on magnetic grap‐hene) was prepared using chemical oxidation polymerization . The RGO/Fe 3 O 4 nanocomposite was dispersed in a 0.3 M aqueous solution of DBSA with an appropriate amount of aniline and m ‐aminobenzoic acid (0.1 M) for 3 h by ultrasonic vibration.…”
