Pollen quality, pollen production and yield of some tomato (Solanum lycopersicum) genotypes under high temperature stress in Eastern Mediterranean

Abstract: Pollen quality, pollen production and yield of different high temperature tolerant tomato genotypes were evaluated under Adana, Turkey conditions in two different periods. The control treatment (normal sown, where day/night temperatures during the vegetative and generative stage are below 32/20 °C) of the first period started on February 20, 2015. The seedlings in the second period were planted on May 15, 2015. The performances of twenty-four tomato genotypes (resistant and sensitive commercial genotypes) were… Show more

“…For this, as stated by Akhoundnejad et al . (2020), 160 kg N, 50 kg P 2 O 5 , 230 kg K 2 O, 100 kg CaO and 120 kg MgO were applied per hectare. The experiment was carried out under control and drought stress according to a randomised block design with four replications and ten plants in each replication.…”

“…In the parcels where drought was applied, 100% irrigation up to flowering and 50% limited irrigation after flowering have been applied until the yield decrease is minimal, but fruit quality has increased (Patanè & Cosentino, 2010; Patanè et al ., 2011). In the experiment, the amount of irrigation water given to plants with full irrigation in the control application was determined by the following formula (Akhoundnejad et al ., 2020). The drought application has been about half that of water.…”

“…It is of great scientific significance and practical urgency to study the mechanism of heat regulation of plants. The research on plant heat resistance has become a hot research field in agricultural scientific research at home and abroad( Chen, Guo et al,2013;Akhoundnejad, Dasgan, Karabiyik,2020;Ma,2021;Ren,2021 ). However, the research on the response of passion fruit to high-temperature heat damage began relatively late.…”

“…shows that many HSP family genes are highly up-regulated when Cucumis sativus is subjected to high-temperature stress, and AP2, MYB, WRKY, bHLH , and HSF transcription factors show different expression patterns under high-temperature stress( Chen, Han, Ren.2021 ). In addition to conventional crops, the heat tolerance mechanisms of medicinal plants such as Pinellia ternata,Mentha canadensis, and Artemisia annua have also been revealed by transcriptome sequencing ( Lu et al,2018;Da, Li, Gao. 2020;Guo et al,2022 ).…”

“…Although there are many studies on physiology, plant growth, and yield of tomatoes under high-temperature conditions [21][22][23][24][25][26][27][28], there is limited research [29] on the nutrient and antioxidant content of the fruit affected by high temperatures. Also, there is a growing interest in increasing the antioxidant content of agricultural crops to improve food quality and produce crops with high-stress tolerance.…”
