The global environmental and social-economic crises of industrialized agriculture have led to the emergence of agroecology as an alternative approach aiming to increase the ecological, social and economic sustainability of agri-food systems. The 'multi-level perspective' is now a widely used framework to understand and promote the upscaling of local innovation niches, such as agroecology, to broader scales (e.g. regional, national, international), thus reconfiguring the dominant socio-technical regimes. Additionally, emergent 'hybrid forums' can provide a space between niche and regime where niche innovators can become important actors in scaling up and out emergent innovations. In this paper, we examine a university training program (postgraduate diploma in Local Agroecological Dynamization at the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona), to better understand its role as a 'hybrid forum'. Our analysis focuses especially on how the program, as an example of a hybrid forum, worked to reconfigure practices, concepts, and tools of local development practitioners. We also assess to what

Actualmente se detectan nuevos patrones de consumo alimentario asociados a los llamados alimentos ecológicos. La extensión de valores posmaterialistas, la conciencia ecológica, la conservación del medio ambiente así como la reciente crisis económica que ha afectado a la mayoría de países europeos, han propiciado la aparición de nuevas formas de consumo de productos ecológicos fundamentados en un modelo de producción sostenible. En este contexto, la producción y consumo de verduras y frutas ecológicas se muestra como una estrategia de calidad de consumo alimentario y también como forma de ahorro en la adquisición y de alimentos frescos y saludables. En la siguiente contribución científica se realiza un estudio estadístico descriptivo comparativo de las características sociodemográficas de los distintos tipos de consumidores de frutas y verduras ecológicas en España y Portugal. También se muestra una descripción de las prácticas de tipo proambientales en dicha tipología de consumidores. Recurrimos a una estrategia de tipo cuantitativa mediante el uso de datos perteneciente a la encuesta ISSP Environment (2010, Portugal) y ISSP (2010, España). La técnica utilizada es el análisis bivariable y el análisis segmentación en árbol mediante el algoritmo CHAID. Los resultados principales muestran la influencia de la formación, los ingresos y el hábitat en la caracterización de los diferentes tipos de consumidores de frutas y verduras ecológicas en España y Portugal.

Can the emergence of organic agriculture in global enclaves of food production be interpreted as contributing to more socially sustainable agriculture? This article discusses three narratives from semistructured interviews with farmers, farmworkers, and trade union representatives in the case of El Ejido, Spain. Here, organic agriculture can be seen to offer a small degree of breathing space from the harshest dynamics of conventional industrial food systems. In conclusion, in this case, the study shows that organic agriculture has been accompanied by experiences of small social sustainability gains and opportunities for workers and farmers, in a particularly challenging context.
