Polarization Reconfigurable Slot Antenna With a Novel Compact CPW-to-Slotline Transition for WLAN Application

Abstract: of WLAN applications. A parametric study is implemented to investigate the characteristic of the proposed antenna. Two dominant parameters that determine the antenna's performance are discussed, and the simulated curves are given. The antenna not only has good impedance matching properties, but also the advantages of simple structure, small size, and low cost. All results demonstrate that the proposed antenna is of great use for WLAN applications. REFERENCES 1. J. Janapsatya, K.P. Esselle, and T.S. Bird, A dua… Show more

“…As a result, the antenna can switch between four LPs at 45°intervals. In [9], a reconfigurable slot antenna that switches between the vertical and horizontal LPs was proposed. Two PIN diodes were applied to the CPW-toslotline transition to control the direction of the electric field that formed in the feed structure.…”

“…However, this approach requires a large amount of space. A reconfigurable antenna with polarization diversity has an advantage of creating two or more polarizations using only one resonator [3][4][5][6]. In [3], four diodes were used for polarization diversity.…”

“…In [4], a polarization reconfigurable slot antenna was proposed where the vertical and horizontal linear polarizations were controlled by two PIN diodes. Nevertheless, an inherent bidirectional radiation generally occurs in slot antennas, which is undesirable in wireless communication applications [5].…”

“…A square slot antenna can change between two linear polarization (LP) states by controlling the feed structure [4]. Generally, circular polarization (CP) operations are preferred in most applications.…”
