Dual-Band Reconfigurable Antenna for Polarization Diversity

Abstract: This paper proposes a dual-band reconfigurable square-ring antenna with a polarization diversity property. The proposed antenna consists of a square-ring resonator, two stubs with a shorting via, and two PIN diodes. The stub is positioned symmetrically to the left and right of the square-ring resonator, and the square-ring antenna connected to one of two stubs has a dual-band resonance. In this case, both resonant frequencies exhibit linear polarization (LP), and the two polarized waves are perpendicular to ea… Show more

“…The temporal fading effects brought by the body motions require more complex measurement designs to cover the on‐body channel polarization distribution over the time domain, which is out of the scope of the present work. By previous studies as in [23, 24], the temporal fading of narrowband on‐body channels is closer to the shadowing effects, indicating the possibility of extending the polarization optimization schemes designed for static scenario via for example, polarization reconfigurable antennas such as those designed in [25, 26]. Therefore, a set of narrowband polarized on‐body channel measurements were collected at the industrial, scientific and medical (ISM) 2.4 GHz band.…”

“…When both the diodes are in OFF condition the Return Loss -18.05dB, VSWR is 1.32. These values of Return Loss and VSWR appears to be better compared to the Reconfigurable monopole antenna for polarization diversity(Sung 2018) in which Return Loss=-19.2dB is lesser value due to the usage of jean substrate and polarisation Reconfigurable structure.VSWR is better for the proposed reconfigurable monopole antenna compared to Hybrid Reconfigurable antenna ("Design and Analysis of a Reconfigurable Antenna for Dual Band ISM Medical and Wi-Fi Applications" 2019) due to the usage of frequency reconfigurable property of the antenna. The ReturnLoss is better compared to the Optimization of A Beam Reconfigurable Antenna using PIN Diodes…”

“…For reconfugaration, varactor diodes, field effect transistors, and PIN diodes are commonly used [9]. PIN diodes are symmetrically positioned to retain the antenna's electrical properties [10]. The dual-band antenna is conceivable depending on the feed position and inset size.…”
