Point cloud based tool path generation for corrective machining in ultra-precision diamond turning

Abstract: The increasing demand for machining non-rotational optical surfaces requires capable and flexible cutting tool path generation methods for ultra-precision diamond turning. Furthermore, the recent interest in on-machine metrology and corrective machining requires efficient as well as accurate algorithms capable to handle point cloud based surface data. In the present work, a new computation method for the tool path generation is proposed that focuses on three-axes corrective machining. It is based on the princi… Show more

“…Wu et al combined aerial photogrammetry with land resource management, built a land resource monitoring and management platform based on the three-dimensional aerial survey model, and realized the concept of "one map" for local land resources [5]. Buhmann et al discussed the setting of UAV fight parameters in the process of aerial photogrammetry operation, and on this basis completed 1: Zhang Guorong combined UAV photogrammetry technology with ground 3D laser scanner to monitor landslide deformation in alpine and steep slope areas [6]. Fu et al proposed a calculation method of earthwork based on tilted photogrammetry technology, which solved the problem of time-consuming and laborious work in earthwork survey and improved the accuracy of earthwork survey to a certain extent [7].…”

“…However, a lathe was used for the RFW in the current work. To reduce experimental error, the computer numerical control turning machine [ 42 , 43 , 44 , 45 ] was recommended to perform the RFW because the feed rate of RFW can be controlled precisely. In addition, the rotational speed [ 46 ] can be changed during the process of RFW.…”

“…This shows the ability of the point cloud data to perform the analysis. Buhmann et al [17] used point cloud data for the generation of the tool path in ultra-precision diamond turning. The calculated tool path using the point cloud was compared with the analytical solution method with great accuracy, thus highlighting the importance of the point cloud data analysis for the dimensional measurements of the components.…”
