PMU Optimal Placement in Wide Area Monitoring Systems using Grey Wolf Optimization technique

Abstract: Wide area monitoring system requires the integration of an advanced technology that provides real time synchronized phase angle measurements at all their measurement points. The phasor measurement units are the most advanced devices to achieve that. The objective of this work is first, to find the optimal placement of a minimum number of PMUs in some standardized IEEE systems. Next, the same method was applied to the Algerian 63 bus system. Two cases are taken into consideration: the minimum number of PMUs wit… Show more

“…In particular, during the charging time, the PHEVs can almost double the average household load and drastically exacerbate the already high PAR [7]. Nature inspired or evolutionary algorithms (EAs) [8][9][10][11][12][13] are efficient candidates for solving engineering problems such as the problem of scheduling electrical appliances in a home under a demand-response program [14]. Scheduling problems may have more than one objective.…”

“…Wide-area monitoring, control and protection applications present higher data resolution and shorter response time than the classical supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) and energy management (EMS) systems. Wide-area monitoring, control and protection applications provide highresolution data contrary to SCADA/EMS which offers a measurement update interval of several seconds (or even minutes) [17].…”
