Past studies 2,3 have shown that wintertime particulate matter (PM) concentrations were primarily in the PM 2.5 size fraction (particles with aerodynamic diameters less than 2.5 µm), while during the remainder of the year PM 10 consisted of nearly equal parts of PM 2.5 and coarse particles (PM 10 minus PM 2.5 ).
