Unusual non‐platelet predominant clumping in a hematopoietic progenitor cell apheresis collection bag

“…Gross (Figure 1B) and histologic examination of the aggregate revealed a population (Figure 2A), composed of predominantly monocytes and granulocytes (Figure 2B). Platelets admixed with fibrin were present in the background (Figure 2C) but was not the predominant feature, in contrast to prior reports 3–5 . The patient proceeded to undergo two additional consecutive days of peripheral blood stem cell collection under similar conditions, which proceeded uneventfully without evidence of product clumping, with a total of 4.19 cells/kg CD34+ cells collected in total for future therapy.…”
