Plastic Surgery

Abstract: Demand for aesthetic plastic surgical procedures is expected to continue to grow, while depending on the economic performance at the macro level and changing demographic dynamics of the U.S. population. Considering all investigated factors and trends among all patients, the most commonly requested procedures by 2030 are likely to be (1) breast augmentations, (2) lipoplasties, and (3) blepharoplasties.

“…In the United States, the patient group aged 35–50 years requested the most surgical procedures, representing 40 %, whereas patients aged 19–34 years underwent 28 % of all surgical procedures (Broer et al 2014 ). In the present study, we found that patients aged 19–34 years underwent the largest share of all cosmetic surgeries, accounting for 76.9 %, indicating a preference for cosmetic surgeries in China among the younger population.…”

In China, cosmetic surgery has been practiced since 1980.…”

“…From 2015 to 2019, the total number of injectables increased by 17.8%, with Americans spending more than $1.6 billion dollars in 2019 alone 1 . Using the 2010 U.S. Census Bureau, Broer et al 2 estimated that approximately 3.8 million aesthetic procedures will be performed by 2030, a staggering increase from the 1.6 million aesthetic procedures performed in 2012. As the population continues to age, we will see an increased interest in patients desiring to slow the aging process, utilizing both surgical and nonsurgical interventions.…”

“…Upper and lower eyelid blepharoplasty are among the most common procedures in aesthetic surgery. 1 The cosmetic and functional benefits of the surgery are often highly desirable for patients but difficult to fully understand. Although several studies have examined the functional outcomes of blepharoplasty, subjective indicators of patient satisfaction are often less known to the surgeon.…”
