“…The T allele frequency of MTHFR c.677C > T was 0.55 in the present study, which was similar to that found in another Korean study (0.57) (Yoo et al, 2000), but higher that those reported for other ethnic populations (0.27$0.48) (Tysoe et al, 1997;Chapman et al, 1998;Bottiglieri et al, 2001;Religa et al, 2003;Seripa et al, 2003).…”

“…Interestingly, like this study, they were from Asian populations: one Japanese (Nishyama et al, 2000) another Chinese (Wang et al, 2005), and the other Iranian (Keikhaee et al, 2006). Other studies where no association has been found have included English (Tysoe et al, 1997), Jewish (Chapman et al, 1998;Pollak et al, 2000), Italian (Bottiglieri et al, 2001;Brunelli et al, 2001;Postiglione et al, 2001;Zuliani et al, 2001;Seripa et al, 2003;Anello et al, 2004;Bosco et al, 2004;Ravaglia et al, 2004), American (Seripa et al, 2003), Polish (Religa et al, 2003), and German (Linnebank et al, 2004) populations. Discrepant findings might reflect ethnic differences in the association between MTHFR c.677C > T polymorphism and AD, although one Japanese study also reported no association (Wakutani et al, 2002), so that further evaluation is needed.…”

“…Ten out of 11 studies were full-length reports in peer-reviewed journals, and one scientific dissertation. Six out of the 11 studies, including 333 cases and 424 controls, involved Caucasian populations [28][29][30][31][32][33]. The other five studies, consisting of 339 cases and 614 controls [34][35][36][37][38], were conducted in Asian populations.…”

“…A genetic cause is unlikely. No association between the TT genotype of MTHFR and AD has been established (Bottiglieri et al, 2001;Postiglione et al, 2001).…”
