Plasma Post-operative miR-21 Expression in the Prognosis of Gastric Cancers

Abstract: Tumor-associated microRNAs have been detected in serum or plasma, but whether plasma microRNA-21 (miR-21) could be a potential circulating biomarker for gastric cancer (GC) prognosis in Chinese is still uncertain. Real-time quantitative reverse transcription PCR (qRT-PCR) was employed in this study to compare the relative expression of miR-21 between pre-operative and post-operative paired plasmas from 42 patients with primary GCs. The results showed that the expression levels of miR-21 in the post-operative p… Show more

“…In recent years, more and more miRNAs were found up-regulated or down-regulated in gastric cancer, so that they were potential biomarkers which will supplement classic cancer biomarkers in clinical applications, such as miR-21 (Guo et al, 2013;Ma et al, 2013). But an ideal biomarker not only must be associated with cancer clinical significance, but also functional experiments of over expression or silence should prove it having great impact on cancer behavior.…”

“…High-throughput screening assay studies have recently characterized the identifiable miRNA expression signature in human tumors. Aberrations in the expression level of specific miRNAs and their regulatory targets are shown to be potential tools for diagnosis, classification, and prediction of prognosis in diverse cancer types (Cho, 2010;Yin et al, 2012;Ma et al, 2013).…”

“…Gastric cancer is a common disease in Asian Pacific area, and most medical resources are specially focused on the diagnosis and treatment of this disease (Ahmad et al, 2013;Atrkar-Roushan et al, 2013;Ma et al, 2013;Song et al, 2013;Suh et al, 2013;Tuncel et al, 2013;Zare et al, 2013;Zhang et al, 2013;Zhu et al, 2013). Combined chemotherapy was reported to be superior to the best supportive care in the man¬agement of MGC (Pyrhonen et al, 1995;Jo et al, 2007;Chen et al, 2013;Usakova et al, 2013).…”
