Plasma microRNA-192 expression as a potential biomarker of diabetic kidney disease in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus

Abstract: Background. Albuminuria is an early clinical indicator of diabetic kidney disease (DKD). however, it has several limitations. The aim of this study was to evaluate the plasma microrNA-192 (mirNA-192) expression and its diagnostic performance in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) and DKD. Methods. In this case-control study, 75 subjects were included into 3 groups: group (1): 20 patients with T2DM and UACr (urinary albumin creatinine ratio) < 30 mg/gm, group (2): 30 patients with T2DM and ACr ≥ 30 mg… Show more

“…Among the 56 studies, forty-five studies reported a single miRNA and 11 studies reported miRNA panels. Detection of miRNAs was performed on serum in 7 studies, 23 In addition, miR-150 (23,28,34), miR-30 (17,22,32), miR-192 (11,22,31), miR-21 (19,23,28), and miR-29 (14,21,27,28) were studied more frequently in the included papers, so more attention could be paid to their role in CKD in the future.…”

“…The most severe complication of diabetes that damages the kidneys and can cause death in individuals is DN, which can be caused by chronic hyperglycemia ( Shu et al, 2021 ). Even though microalbuminuria is regarded as the gold standard for early DN evaluation and diagnosis, its accuracy in predicting disease progression is still limited ( Abdelaty et al, 2020 ). Investigating more sensitive indicators for observing the progression of DN may be useful to enable earlier diagnosis and more efficient treatments ( Negeem et al, 2023 ).…”

“…[18] Prior research has indicated that miR-192 contributes to the DN's fibrogenesis process induced by transforming growth factor-beta1 (TGF-β1). [19,20] MiR-21 is a prominent miRs associated with renal fibrosis. [21,22] Current animal model experimental research has illustrated that miR-21 inhibitors drastically promote the function of kidneys.…”
