“…In parallel to the literature, high Endocan levels were shown to be related with the development of VAP in the present study. Similar to the literature, it was also determined that WBC, PCT, and CRP levels were correlated with the development of VAP [15,17].…”

“…In addition, it is also mentioned in these studies that Endocan can be a diagnostic and prognostic factor in pulmonary diseases. In the study by Kao et al., it was revealed that plasma Endocan level was more useful than CRP and WBC counts in assessing severity of the community‐acquired pneumonia [15]. Likewise, Endocan levels after the major trauma were related with development of the acute lung injury [14] and Endocan levels in Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome were high [25].…”

“…In their study, Kao et al attempted to evaluate endocan’s usefulness in differentiating healthy individuals from patients with pulmonary infections 73. More specifically, endocan levels were measured in 82 hospitalized patients with community-acquired pneumonia (CAP) and compared to those of healthy controls.…”

“…Kao et al [12] reported in a recent study that endocan was reliable in evaluating the severity of community-acquired pneumonia. Güzel et al [13] found a correlation between plasma endocan levels and thromboembolism.…”
