Plasma Adiponectin Concentration and Its Association with Metabolic Syndrome in Patients with Heart Failure

Abstract: PurposePlasma adiponectin concentrations are inversely related with metabolic syndrome (MetS), and MetS is associated with increased risk for heart failure (HF). However, the relationship between adiponectin and MetS in HF remains undetermined. Therefore, we tested whether MetS was associated with the degree of plasma adiponectin concentrations in HF patients.Materials and MethodsOne hundred twenty eight ambulatory HF patients with left ventricular ejection fraction of <50% (80 males, 61.8±11.9 years old) were… Show more

“…39 This obesity-induced downregulated expression has been linked to the pathogenesis of various diseases. [40][41][42][43] In this study, for the first time, we demonstrated in vivo that lycopene was able to increase adiponectin mRNA levels in diet-induced obesity (Figure 1(b)), independent of the adiposity index in the rats ( Table 1). The increase in mRNA levels by lycopene was accompanied by an increase in plasma concentration of adiponectin (Figure 1(a)), indicating that the increase in adiponectin plasma concentration could be due an increased adiponectin mRNA synthesis in the adipose tissue.…”

“…Total, low-density lipoprotein (LDL) and high-density lipoprotein (HDL) cholesterol, triglycerides, and glucose levels were measured from blood samples obtained after a 12-hour fast. hsCRP was measured as previously described 11. Smoking was defined as current or former smoker.…”

“…Adipokines, such as adiponectin, are secreted by the adipose tissue or as a result of glucose and lipid metabolism. [2022]. Accordingly, the level of adiponectin is associated with obesity-related disorders and metabolic risk factors [2326].…”
