“…Zeorin (Tsuda et al 1967) has been isolated from liverworts (Bard on et al 1999, 2002, Toyota and Asakawa 1993 and other vascular plants (Wong et al 1986;Inayama et al 1989;Wu et al 1990;Shiojima and Ageta 1994). There are a few reports of zeorin isolation or detection from lichen extracts (Shibata et al 1965, Yoshioka et al 1966, although it is not clear whether the mycobiont is the producer.…”

“…The 1 H-and 13 C-NMR of this compound were very similar to the spectra of 1, but in the case of 2, in 13 C-NMR a carbon at 69.3 ppm (corresponding to an oxygenated methine) was detected. By comparison with literature data (Mahato and Kundu, 1994;Wong et al, 1986;Elix et al, 1982), 2 was identified as zeorine (6a, 22-dihydroxyhopane). Elix et al (1982) reported the isolation of this compound from the lichen Heterodermia tremulans and Morais (1990) described its isolation from the liverwort Reboulia hemispheaerica.…”

“…A new atisane-2 derivative (60) from Lepidolaena clavigera exhibited weak inhibitory activity against mouse lymphocytic leukemia cells (P-388) with an IC 50 value of 16 mg/mL [35] [35]. a-Zeorin (61) has been isolated from several liverworts and displayed cytotoxic activity against P-388 cells with an IC 50 of 1.1 mg/ml [36,37]. (27) and tulipinolide (67) were obtained and the former germacranolide shown to be cytotoxic against the HL-60 cell line (IC 50 4.6 mM) [38].…”
