Planning and implementing the green manufacturing strategy: evidences from western China

Abstract: Purpose -The purpose of this paper is to explore the model for planning and implementing the green manufacturing (GM) strategy for Chinese enterprises under the background of "Energy Conservation and Pollution Emissions Reduction". Design/methodology/approach -Based on an in-depth case study of a machine tool manufacturer in Chongqing, China, the paper tries to investigate the planning and implementing of a GM strategy from the perspective of the product life cycle. Findings -The GM strategy in large developin… Show more

“…Green IS facilitates waste and energy reuse, and routing effectively [10], [15]. Green manufacturing strategy is essential on a long term implementation basis and a five-layer model is proposed by authors for implementation and planning [39]. The identified research gap is, limited literature available on factors influencing effective and efficient adoption of Green IS and barriers of implementation that because majority of available literature is on significance of the Green IS/IT.…”

“…These references are especially present in studies involving ecodesign, green International Journal of Sustainable Development & World Ecology 325 manufacturing, 3Rs, 6Rs and green supply chain (Johansson 2002;Li et al 2010;Kuik et al 2011). Following the approach of sustainable development from the economic, social and environmental perspectives, products should be ideally designed and produced with recyclable, renewable or biodegradable materials (Kuik et al 2011), which involves low-energy consumption (Johansson & Winroth 2010).…”

“…Some of green strategies and techniques can create products/systems, which in turn consumes less materials and energy, substituting input materials, reducing unwanted outputs and converting outputs to inputs (recycling) this reflect the green manufacturing term (Deif, 2011). According to Li et al (2010) in order to realise the objectives of reducing energy consumption and waste emission, overcome green trade barriers, the green manufacturing strategy should be adopted by Chinese enterprises. Lawrence et al (1998) defined the green manufacturing strategy as the response of an organisation's products, services and activities to its natural environment.…”
