Planar organosilicon polymers

Abstract: Work on two sheet organosilicon polymers, one derived from the mineral chrysotile and the other from the mineral apophyllite, is described. This work provides direct evidence that both these polymers are composed of sheets. In addition, it shows that in the chrysotile‐derived polymer the sheets curl into scrolls, and that in the apophyllite‐derived polymer the sheets are essentially flat.

“…In addition, they have electric, thermal, and optical properties as well as exceptional mechanical strengths [4951]. In this regard, many types of functionalized CNTs have emerged during the last few decades, examples of which are self-assembling CNTs, template-synthesized CNTs, fullerene CNTs, peptide CNTs, and organosilica polymeric CNTs [50, 5255]. The template-synthesized method is considered as the most convenient for the preparation of functionalized CNTs since it provides a simple means for attaching chemical and biochemical groups (such as silica, gold antibodies, etc.)…”
