PIXE simulation in Geant4

Abstract: Geant4 is a general purpose and open source C + + Monte Carlo simulation toolkit, widely used in the scientific community. It is able to simulate physical interactions of particles through matter. According to the user's needs, models for the simulation of electromagnetic (EM) interactions are provided in two Geant4 subpackages, the 'standard' EM subpackage, well suited for a wide range of applications and the 'low-energy' EM subpackage, able to reach the electronVolt regime. Particle-induced X-ray emission (P… Show more

“…These phenomena can also lead to electron generation, either through atomic relaxation by fluorescence followed by a Bremstrahlung interaction or by the Auger process, or by plasmon degradation. A class is available in the Geant4-DNA extension to treat the atomic excitation modeling and the following atomic relaxation processes are now treated in a unified way in both Standard and Low-energy subpackages [48]: these already existing Geant4 classes could be used as a basis to model the atomic excitation and the following relaxation at lower energy.…”
