The present study aims to determine the epidemiological, clinical and laboratorial profile of the dermatopathies that affect dogs and cats living in a semi-arid area in the Northeast of Brazil. Seventy-eight dogs and cats consulted at the Veterinary Hospital with dermatological complaints were included in this study. Skin lesions were characterized with respect to morphology, appearance, and distribution, an epidemiological questionnaire was applied, and samples were collected for complementary examination. The diagnosis was confirmed by parasitological and microbiological tests. There was a predominance of the canine species (93.6%), of young animals (46.3%), and of animals of undefined breeds (61.5%). It was observed that 29.5% of the affections were of fungal aetiology, 14.1% were bacterial, 3.9% were scabies. In 5.1% of the cases there were associations between different pathogens, and in 47.4% the laboratory examination was negative for the pathogens investigated. The most frequent clinical manifestations included alopecia (74.4%), pruritus (61.6%) and erythema (43.6%), distributed mainly in the dorsal-ventral region (36.1%) or even disseminated (43.1%). With respect to One Health, 51.3% (40/78) of the owners reported that they did not know what "zoonoses" were. Dermatopathies have been shown to be important disorders, especially the mycotic and bacterial diseases. Atypical cases of infections motivated by pathogens little described in the literature as etiologic agents of dermatopathies in dogs and cats were observed.

“…A partir del plan global de control de la resistencia bacteriana realizado por la Organización Mundial de la Salud (OMS) en 2018 se desarrolló una lista de antibióticos de importancia crítica para la medicina humana donde se encuentran incluidos diversos fármacos comúnmente utilizados en la terapéutica veterinaria (WHO, 2018). Entre los fármacos utilizados con alta frecuencia en el tratamiento de las piodermas en perros se encuentra la enrofloxacina, cefovencina y amoxicilina/ácido clavulánico (Sá et al, 2018), los cuales son considerados de importancia crítica para la salud humana (WHO, 2018). El objetivo del presente trabajo fue evaluar el efecto del tratamiento con florfenicol en las dosis de 10 y 20 mg/kg administrados por vía IM, en el tratamiento de la pioderma canina por Staphylococcus intermedius, utilizando el modelamiento farmacocinético/farmacodinámico (PK/PD). Se hizo una simulación de Monte Carlo de los parámetros farmacocinéticos y farmacodinámicos y luego se realizó el análisis PK/PD para determinar las tasas de eficacia en el tratamiento de la infección bacteriana, según la concentración inhibitoria mínima (CIM) del S. intermedius, utilizando el intervalo entre 0.25 y 2 µg/ml. Las probabilidades de obtener el índice de erradicación bacteriológica con la dosis de 10 mg/kg fue de 97, 77, 7 y 1%, y con la dosis de 20 mg/kg fue de 95, 87, 61 y 7%, según las CIMs bacterianas de 0.25, 0.5, 1 y 2 µg/ml, respectivamente. La probabilidad de obtener la cura bacteriológica después del tratamiento con la dosis de 10 mg/kg disminuyó de forma significativa para infecciones causadas por microrganismos con CIM superior a 0.5 µg/ml (p<0.01), mientras que para la dosis de 20 mg/kg fue con CIM mayor de 1 µg/ml (p<0.01). El resultado evidencia la necesidad de incorporar en el protocolo terapéutico el aislamiento bacteriológico, la determinación de la CIM y la optimización de dosis terapéuticas basadas en la susceptibilidad bacteriana a fin de evitar fallas en terapéuticas y, consecuentemente, el incremento del desarrollo de resistencia microbiana.
