“…7 Traumatic inoculation of the epidermis by a pilomatricoma might explain progression to an epidermal cyst. 8 The transition between a pilomatricoma and an epidermal cyst, in the same cyst, might suggest a common histogenesis. 10 However, epidermal cysts and pilomatricomas or trichilemmal cysts have distinct histopathology.…”

“…The epidermoid cyst was adjacent to the pilomatricoma in three cases and within the tumor in one case. Of these four pilomatricoma, shadow cells were present in all cases, giant cells in the stroma in three cases, and basophilic cells in one 3 . In the index case, we found sheets of shadow cells along with foreign body giant cells adjacent to epidermal cyst, but there were no basaloid cells.…”

“…Although pilomatricoma‐like changes have been reported in the epidermal cysts in patients with Gardner’s syndrome, 2 such features have not been documented in patients without Gardner’s syndrome. On extensive search of literature, we came across a single article describing pilomatricoma associated with epidermoid cyst 3 . We report an extremely rare co‐occurrence of pilomatricoma with an epidermal cyst from a 45‐year‐old man.…”
