Piezosurgery versus conventional method alveoloplasty

Abstract: Purpose:Conventional alveoloplasty procedure using manual instruments results in higher resorption of the residual alveolar ridge, which is unsuitable for denture construction. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effect of piezosurgery-assisted alveoloplasty using minimally invasive technique compared to that of the conventional technique.Materials and Methods:This was a comparative in vivo study. The study sample consisted of 35 edentulous patients with bilateral bony spicules requiring alveoloplast… Show more

“…In our study, the most common age group to undergo pre-prosthetic surgery are patients of 51-60 years. Results of study by Gangmani et al were similar to our study as they also reported patients of 60 years of age are common age groups who undergo pre-prosthetic surgery (Gangwani et al, 2018). It is observed in our study that alveoplasty is more common in patients above 40 years and frenectomy is highly prevalent in patients below 40 years.…”

“…It has been found that there is requirement of alveoloplasty in almost every patient who has undergone multiple extractions and may also be needed in those with single extraction. (Gangwani et al, 2018) The goal for contouring the alveolar ridge is to gain favorable tissue support for the designed prosthesis while conserving as much soft tissue and hard tissue as possible. (Fonseca and Davis, 1986) Dental practitioner or clinicians should be able to evaluate and recognize the requirement of any changes of the denture loading areas.…”

“…According to (Gangwani et al, 2018) alveoloplasty using piezosurgery results in lesser discomfort and maintains the proper alveolar ridge integrity without disturbing the soft tissue and hard tissue structure. It allows faster healing as compared to conventional technique.…”
