Piezoelectric Microactuators for Use in Magnetic Disk Drives

Abstract: The orthogonal collocation method is applied to the study ofwall-stabilised plasma arcs. The numerical implementation of this method is simpler a.nd faster than that of finite difference methods of comparable accuracy. The solutions obtained agree with experiments and with previous finite difference calculations. For the steady-state DC case, radial temperature results are obtained for arcs in nitrogen and sulphur hexafluoride a? atmospheric pressure. It is shown that the inclusion of radiative self-absorption … Show more

“…Its servo bandwidth is limited to about 3 kHz mainly by the suspension's primary resonance modes (Numasato and Tomizuka 2003). This had led to the development of various slider-level and head-level dual-stage positioning schemes to increase HDD servo bandwidth for lowering the sensitivity to disturbances with improved track-following and track-seeking performances (Hirano et al 1998, Soeno et al 1999, Kurihara et al 2004, Hirano and Yang 2005, Toshiyoshi et al 2002.…”

“…Moreover, their component size should be in the micron level [2]. Static, electromagnetic, and piezoelectric [3][4][5][6][7][8][9][10] actuators are the principal devices in the Micro-Electro-Mechanical System. Liu et al [3] fabricated magnetic flaps supposed to be as an integrated part of an active micro electro-mechanical fluid control system.…”

“…Recently, we have reported the mechanical properties of a rotating symmetrical actuator system. 14) Figure 1 shows the schematic structure of a microactuator system developed using a piezoelectric actuator element and a small hinge plate. This structure shows excellent resonance properties produced by the rotating symmetrical structure, however, using a hinge plate is undesirable when considering the total cost of the microactuator system.…”
