The largest wastewater treatment systems include Sorbulak and Kurty reservoirs, and the small storage ponds were studied in the summer of 2017 and characterized mainly by organic pollution. Phytoplankton communities were represented by species tolerant of organic and toxic pollution. Cyanobacteria dominated in the reservoirs, and dinophyte algae were only in the Kurty Reservoir. According to the results of CCA analysis, only Cr and certain nutrients had a significant effect on the abundance of algae. A statistically positive significant association between the Shannon index and the average algal cell mass was established. The results obtained are a particular example reflecting the non-linearity of changes in plankton communities in the gradient of nutrient loading and eutrophication of aquatic ecosystems.ZUSAMMENFASSUNG: Die Rolle der Planktonalgen in der ökologischen Beurteilung von Staubecken im Einzugsgebiet des Ili-Balkhash.Die größten Abwasserbehandlungssysteme, das Sorbulak und Kurty Reservoir sowie kleinere Wasserspeicher, vor allem solche, die sich durch organische Verschmutzung kennzeichnen, wurden im Sommer 2017 untersucht. Die Phytoplankton-Gemeinschaften waren durch Arten vertreten, die gegenüber organischer und toxischer Verschmutzung tolerant sind. Cyanobacterien dominierten in den Stauseen, während Dinophyten nur im Kurty-Reservoir vorkamen. Nach den Ergebnissen der CCA-Analyse hatten nur Cr und einige Nährstoffe einen signifikanten Einfluss auf die Abundanz der Algen. Es wurde ein statistisch positiv signifikanter Zusammenhang zwischen dem Shannon-Index und der durchschnittlichen Algenzellmasse festgestellt. Die erzielten Ergebnisse stellen ein besonderes Beispiel dar, das die Nichtlinearität von Veränderungen in Planktongemeinschaften in Bezug auf den Grad der Nährstoffbelastung und der Eutrophierung aquatischer Ökosysteme widerspiegelt.REZUMAT: Rolul algelor planctonice în evaluarea ecologică a lacurilor de acumulare din bazinul Ili-Balkhash.Cele mai mari sisteme de epurare a apelor uzate, inclusiv Sorbulak, rezervoarele Kurty și mici iazuri de depozitare, au fost studiate în vara anului 2017 fiind caracterizate în principal de poluarea organică. Comunitățile fitoplanctonice au fost reprezentate de specii care tolerează poluarea organică și toxică. Cianobacteriile au dominat rezervoarele, algele dinofile numai rezervorul Kurty. Conform rezultatelor analizei CCA, doar Cr și substanțele nutritive au avut un efect semnificativ asupra abundenței algelor. A fost stabilită o asociere pozitivă semnificativă statistic între indicele Shannon și masa medie a celulelor algelor. Rezultatele reprezintă un exemplu care reflectă nelinearitatea schimbărilor în comunitățile de plancton în gradientul încărcării cu nutrienți și al eutrofizării ecosistemelor acvatice.

In order to find effective measures to control a Moroccan shallow reservoir (Sidi Abderrahmane), a better understanding of phytoplankton composition, abundance, spatial and temporal distribution it is necessary. Trophic level and the stability status were assessed upon the basis of Shannon diversity index (H′), species richness (S), and evenness (J) index. Statistical tests were used to evaluate the different relationships between phytoplankton and the concentrations of several physico-chemical parameters, and the main soluble nutrients. In surveys, the samples were taken fortnightly from May 2011 to December 2012. 64 taxa belonging to seven groups of phytoplankton were identified, including Bacillariophyceae (25 taxa), Chlorophyceae (22 taxa), and Cyanophyceae (9 taxa). Aulacoseira granulata, Nitzschia palea, Scenedesmus acuminatus, and Oscillatoria sp, were the main contributors to the dissimilarity in temporal distribution. Phytoplankton population never reached a monospecificity situation. Shannon and evenness indices were between (0.0001 < H′ < 0.15; 0.003 < J < 0.085) and manifested a young phytoplankton community with high multiplying power. There were significant correlations between total phytoplankton (r = 0.015, p < .01) and water temperature. Significant negative correlations were observed between transparency and Cyanophyceae (r = −0.208, p < .05) and between the number of species and transparency (r = −0.206, p < .05), orthophosphorus (r = −0.377, p < .01), and nitrates (r = −0.301, p < .01). A negative correlation was found between Orthophosphorus and Chlorophyceae (r = −0.377, p < .01). Similar correlations were also observed with nitrates and Chlorophyceae (r = −0.297, p < .01), Silica and Bacillariophyceae (r = 0, p < .01) and total phytoplankton (r = −0.372, p < .07). The underwater light condition, as indicated by Secchi depth fluctuations, hydraulic process conditions (short residence time, short outflow/inflow ratio) were shown to be the limiting factors in regulating the density of phytoplankton. With reference to Palmer pollution index, test results indicated an oligotrophic or mesotrophic reservoir. The data presented provide the first contemporary account of the level of algal diversity present, the prominent environmental conditions and trophic status of Sidi Abderrahmane reservoir waters.

Situ Gintung merupakan salah satu perairan yang diaplikasikan program zero karamba jaring apung (KJA) berdasarkan Peraturan Presiden Nomor 15 Tahun 2018 Tentang Percepatan Pengendalian Pencemaran dan Kerusakan Daerah Aliran Sungai Citarum dengan tujuan dapat memperbaiki kualitas dan nutrien perairan. Tujuan penelitian ini mengevaluasi program zero KJA terhadap kualitas dan status nutrien berdasarkan indeks biotik yaitu plankton dan gastropoda. Pengambilan sampel pada lima stasiun di Situ Gintung setelah diaplikasikannnya program zero KJA. Faktor kimia-fisik yang diukur adalah suhu air, derajat keasaman (pH) air, kecerahan, padatan terlarut total, kekeruhan, dan oksigen terlarut (DO) dengan water quality checker (WQC). Pengujian nitrit dan fosfat dilakukan dengan menggunakan UV-Vis Spektrofotometer. Pengambilan sampel plankton menggunakan metode filtrasi dan gastropoda dengan cara hand collecting pada kuadrat 1 m2. Hasil pengukuran kimia-fisika pada setiap periode secara keseluruhan Situ Gintung masih berada di dalam baku mutu PP. No. 22 Tahun 2021 dengan nilai water quality index (WQI) yang terus mengalami penurunan dari Januari hingga Maret (81,42 menjadi 67,14). Kepadatan fitoplankton mengalami penurunan dari Januari hingga Maret dan kepadatan zooplankton cenderung stabil. Komposisi sebaran fitoplankton secara umum didominasi oleh kelompok Cyanobacteria, Bacillariophyceae, dan Chlorophyceae. Komposisi sebaran zooplankton didominasi oleh Brachionus sp., Daphnia sp., dan Nauplius sp. Nilai keanekaragaman (H’) untuk plankton dan gastropoda berada dalam kategori sedang (1<H’<3), untuk nilai kemerataan (e) berada dalam kategori kemerataan tinggi (E>0,5), dan nilai dominansi (C) yang menunjukkan tidak adanya dominansi (C<0,5). Nilai indeks saprobik dan indeks diatom menunjukan Situ Gintung dalam keadaan tercemar sedang dengan status nutrien mesotrofik-eutrofik.Situ Gintung is one of the reservoirs in which a zero floating net cages (FNC) program has been applied according to the Presidential Regulation Number 15 of 2018 concerning the Acceleration of Pollution Control and Damage to the Citarum River Basin with a purpose to improve the quality and nutrients of the river. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the water quality and nutrient status in Gintung Reservoir based on biotic index post implementation of the zero FNC program in the reservoir. Sampling activities were carried out in five stations within Gintung Reservoir post implementation of the zero FNC program. In-situ chemical-physical factors measured were water temperature, degree of acidity (pH) of water, brightness, total dissolved solids (TDS), turbidity (turbidity), and oxygen content (DO) using water quality checker equipment. Nitrite and phosphate testing were done ex-situ using a UV-Vis Spectrophotometer. Plankton samples were collected using filtration method. Gastropod samples were collected by hand using a quadran of 1 m2. Results of the chemical-physical measurements showed that water quality of Gintung Reservoir is still within the quality standard of PP No. 22 of 2021 with the water quality index (WQI) continued to decline from January to March (81.42 to 67.14). Phytoplankton density decreased from January to March while zooplankton density was relatively stable. The composition of phytoplankton distribution was dominated by groups of Cyanobacteria, Bacillariophyceae, and Chlorophyceae. The composition of the zooplankton distribution was dominated by Brachionus sp., Daphnia sp., and Nauplius sp. The diversity values (H’) for plankton and gastropods were in the medium category (1<H’<3), the evenness values (e) was in the high category (E>0.5) and the dominance value (C) showed no dominance (C<0.5). Saprobic and diatom indexes showed that Gintung Reservoir was categorized as mesotrophic-eutrophic waterbody with moderately polluted condition.
