Phytochemical Screening of the Hydro Ethanolic Extract of Brassica oleracea Var. Italica Plant Extract

Abstract: Objective: This study was designed elucidate the Phytochemicals of the widely-used plant Brassica oleracea var. Italica. Method: Hydroethanolic extracts of Brassica oleracea var. Italica plant extract was investigated. A small portion of the hydroethanolic extracts of Brassica oleracea var. Italica was subjected to the phytochemical test using Trease and Evans and Harbourne methods to test for the presence of alkaloids, tannins, reducing sugars, saponins, terpenoids, phenols, flavonoids and Anthraquionones. “…Identification and confirmation of bioactive compound 1,2-Benzenedicarboxylic acid, mono(2ethylhexyl) ester (C16H22O4) by using Column chromatography, GC-MS which is known as the major compound of S.alata at the Nyapa Indah research site. These metabolites are known to have antibacterial and anti-cytotoxic [79], antifungal [80], antiviral, antibacterial [81], antioxidant, anticancer, anti-inflammatory [82,83], and antidiabetic properties [84].…”

“…The consumption has been connected to a decreased prevalence of diseases like cancers, respiratory issues, osteoporosis, and muscle atrophy—diseases that are frequently linked to obesity and malnutrition (Faienza et al., 2019 ). However, nowadays, a variety of foods emanating from a wide variety of seeds and sprouts are commonly consumed throughout the world (Shah et al., 2016 ; Yilmaz et al., 2020 ). The potential to treat free radical damage, and antioxidants originating from plant extracts were among the main investigation areas (Aloo et al., 2021 ).…”

“…This is attributed to the antibacterial compounds present in Aloe vera leaves. According to research conducted by Kushwaha et al, (2023) and Jha et al, (2018), a phytochemical screening of Aloe vera leaf pulp yielded positive results for alkaloids, flavonoids, glycosides, tannins, saponins, and steroids/triterpenoids [29,30].…”

“…Aloe vera extract can exhibit antibacterial effects on the growth of E. coli and S. aureus bacteria due to the influence of secondary metabolite compounds present in the extract. Compounds that provide antibacterial activity include alkaloids, flavonoids, tannins, saponins, and triterpenoids [29,30].…”
