Bitki çeşitli hastalıkların tedavisinde etkili olan çeşitli majör sekonder metabolitler içermektedir. Bu çalışmada, Coscinium fenestratum meyvelerinin antioksidan ve antihelmintik aktiviteleri değerlendirilmiştir. Gereç ve Yöntemler: Bu çalışmada, kurutulmuş meyvelerin sulu, metanollü ve sulu metanollü (1:1) ekstreleri hazırlanmış ve ekstrelerin alkaloit, fenolik, flavonoid içerikleri ile antioksidan (DPPH ve hidrojen peroksit süpürücü etki tayin yöntemi) ve antihelmintik aktiviteleri değerlendirilmiştir. ABSTRACTObjectives: Coscinium fenestratum (Gaertn.) Colebr. (CF, Family: Menispermaceae) is an important endangered woody climber in India. CF contains various major secondary metabolites for the treatment of various disease conditions. The present study aimed to establish the antioxidant and anthelmintic activity of Coscinium fenestratum fruit pulp. Materials and Methods: The dried fruit pulp was subjected to aqueous, methanol, and mixed aqueous and methanol (1:1) solvent extraction followed by phytochemical investigations, estimations of alkaloids, phenolics, flavonoids, antioxidant potentiality (DPPH and hydrogen peroxide scavenging methods), and anthelmintic activity tests were carried out. Results: Preliminary phytochemical screening of CF fruit extracts revealed the presence of alkaloids phenols, flavonoids, tannins, steroids, and resins, which are responsible for biologic properties. The combined aqueous and methanol extract resulted in significant anthelmintic and antioxidant properties in a dose-dependent manner. The DPPH free radical scavenging assay and H 2 O 2 assay exhibited IC 50 values of 42.38±0.012 μg/mL and 46.80±0.011 μg/mL, respectively. Thereafter, the anthelmintic activity test was carried out against Pheretima posthuma and Taenia solium with the extract at varying concentrations of 25, 50, 100 and 150 mg/mL and compared with standard albendazole (25 and 50 mg/mL) and saline (0.9%) as a control. All the extracts exhibited concentration-dependent paralytic effect, followed by death on the test organism, but significant activity was observed with the combined methanol and aqueous extract. Conclusion:The study was conducted in order to find possible isolated compounds as a biosources for future novel antioxidants in food and pharmaceutical formulations. Our findings indicate for the first time that the CF fruit pulp has therapeutic values with prominent antioxidant and anthelmintic properties.

Kydia calycina (KC) is commonly known as Kydia tree belongs to the family Malvaceae. The tree has many ethanobotanical uses like leaves are used for treatment of skin diseases, abscess, wounds, cuts, boils, body pain, roots are used as anti-rheumatic etc. The present study was aimed to investigate anthelmintic activity of various solvent extracted leaves and to understand the influence of seasonal variations on phytoconstituents content and screening of the said activity. Leaves were extracted with aqueous, methanol and equi-mixure of aqueous and methanol solvents (1:1). Various proximate analysis like presence of moisture content, extractive values, total ash value, water and acid soluble ash were estimated as per IP-1996. Thereafter preliminary phytoconstituents screening of all the individual leaf extracts were carried out as per the standard method described. Furthermore anthelmintic activity was carried out against Pheretima posthuma (Earthworms) at varied concentrations of 12.5, 25, 50 and 100 mg/ml and compared with standard Albendazole (12.5 and 25 mg/ml) and distilled water as control. Results revealed the presence of glycoside, carbohydrates, steroids and terpenoids in various extracts with varied ranges of results in proximate analysis. Furthermore the highest anthelmintic activity was showed by the equal mixture of aqueous and methanol extract (paralysis at 4.47± 0.23 min followed by death at 10.14± 1.02 min at 100 mg/ml) when compared with the standard Albendazole (paralysis at 2.14± 0.04 min followed by death at 4.21± 0.11 min at 12.5 mg/ml). Results concluded that KC leaf has significant dose dependent anthelmintic activity based on the selected solvents for extraction, type of constituent present and influenced by seasonal variations.

In the history of humanity, great ancestors of Indian sub-continent used plants that possessed unique medicinal properties. They identified the plants from jungles and derived crude drugs out of them for treating infectious diseases. This treatment process was a tradition. In the recent century, this plant-based drug extraction, processing and refining began scientifically by pharmaceutical industries. In this new era, plants with medicinal features are being used in curing broad spectrum of diseases. Lannea Coromandelica (L.C.) is a medicinal plant that belongs to this category. Tribals extensively used it in treating various infectious diseases and common injuries. There have been very few studies on the leaves, barks, flowers, gums and mucilage of this tree. But no preliminary phytochemical composition of L.C. stem has been studied. Therefore, the current work focusses on the screening of the phytochemical profile of the stem of L.C. by the sequential ethanolic extract. Stems of L.C. were procured from Mettur, Tamil Nadu. Thirteen different components were qualitatively analyzed using standard procedures from 100g of L.C. stem extract. In this study, seven components were identified, and their percentage was estimated. Using GC-MS, 50 components were identified of which Pentadecanoic acid, 14-methyl-methyl ester (1.0%) was the major component. The presence of these components in L.C. stem extract can be used in the treatment of different ailments through their antioxidant, anti-arthritic, anti-diabetic, antiinflammatory and antimicrobial activities.
