Physiological specialization of wheat leaf rust (Puccinia triticina Eriks.) in the Czech Republic in 2009-2011

Abstract: Hanzalová A., Bartoš P., Sumíková T. (2013) In 2009-2011 virulence of the wheat leaf rust population was studied on Thatcher near isogenic lines with Lr1, Lr2a, Lr2b, Lr2c, Lr3a, Lr9, Lr11, Lr13, Lr15, Lr17, Lr19, Lr21, Lr23, Lr24, Lr26 and Lr28. Samples of leaf rust were obtained in different parts of the Czech Republic. A total of 164 wheat leaf rust isolates were analysed. Resistance gene Lr9 was effective to 98% of all tested isolates. No virulence to Lr19 was found. Gene Lr24 was effective to 93% of isola… Show more

“…2-27.6% of the fungal isolates tested. In the previous period of research carried out by Czajowski et al (2011) and by Hanzalová et al (2013;, the pathotypes 12720, 12724 and 12762 appeared more frequently. A common feature of these pathotypes is virulence against the following genes: Lr1, Lr3, Lr11, Lr15, Lr17 and Lr21 (Czajowski et al, 2016).…”

“…Neviski (McIntosh et al, 2013). According to the last monitoring, virulence to Lr24 was very rare in Germany, Spain, Hungary, Slovak Republic (HuertaEspino et al, 2011), and Czech Republic (Hanzalova et al, 2013), Lithuania (Liatukas, 2003) and China (Liu and Chen, 2012). In Ukraine, Lr24 exhibited moderate susceptibility at the seedling stage and resistance at adult plant stages.…”

“…As an intermediate host, Thalictrum and Leptopyrum species do not play a major role in the development of brown rust. However, it serves as a reserve for the emergence of new pathotypes (races) [7,8].…”
