Physiological sagittal plane patellar kinematics during dynamic deep knee flexion

Abstract: Purpose Lateral radiographic views can be easily taken and have reveal considerable information about the patella. The purpose of this study was to obtain sagittal plane patellar kinematics data through the entire range of knee flexion under weight-bearing conditions. Methods Patellar flexion angles relative to the femur and tibia and anterior-posterior and proximal-distal translations of the patella relative to the femur and tibia were measured from 0 to 165°knee flexion in nine healthy knees using dynamic ra… Show more

“…In the field of medical imaging, 3 various technologies, such as magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), 1,7,8 computed tomography (CT) scan, 9,10 ultrasound, 11,12 and plain radiographs (X‐rays) are available for the diagnosis of KOA. The advantages like cost‐effectiveness, less exposure to radiation, and easy availability, make X‐ray the versatile and most widely used imaging modality for the diagnosis of knee OA 13–15 …”

“…Several studies have established that PF kinematics [1012], alignment [13, 8, 10, 1215], and contact [46, 12, 13, 1521] vary from low to moderate knee flexion (0° – 60°). However, few studies have evaluated these parameters into deep knee flexion [10, 16].…”
