Physics potential of a muon-proton collider

Kingman Cheung,
Zeren Simon Wang

Abstract: We propose a muon-proton collider with asymmetrical multi-TeV beam energies and integrated luminosities of 0.1 − 1 ab −1 . With its large center-of-mass energies and yet small Standard Model background, such a machine can not only improve electroweak precision measurements but also probe new physics beyond the Standard Model to an unprecedented level. We study its potential in measuring the Higgs properties, probing the R-parity-violating Supersymmetry, as well as testing heavy new physics in the muon g − 2 an… Show more

“…Possible muon-hadron colliders and their scientific potential have been discussed previously, for example in Refs. [5][6][7]. A MuIC at BNL would serve also as a major step toward a future muon-antimuon (µ + µ − ) collider, which has received revived attention in the particle physics community in recent years because of its potential of reaching √ s = O (10) TeV in a relatively compact tunnel (e.g., the size of the LHC).…”

“…With the main objective of measuring Higgs boson properties, there has been renewed interest in muon colliders [1,2,3]. At the low energy level, there has been numerous works concerning (g − 2) µ from the theoretical and experimental point of view [4,5,6,7].…”
